Scanning options

At Heidelberg University Library you have various options for making scans.

Book scanner
Zeutschel book scanners are available in the reading areas of the University Library Altstadt and the Neuenheim branch. You can use these free of charge to make high-quality scans. All you need to save your files is a USB stick, which you can borrow from the information desks for a deposit if required.

Slide scanner
You can digitize the slides you have brought with you in the multimedia centre room. The digitizing device is available at the information desk.

Flatbed scanner
For particularly high-quality digitization of DIN A4 documents, a flatbed scanner is available in the Multimedia Centre.

Scanning at photocopiers
In the information centers, reading rooms and the Multimedia Center you will find photocopiers with an integrated scanning function. Use these free scanners to transfer your documents to a USB stick. Heidelberg University students and staff also have the option of sending scans directly to their university e-mail address.

Full texts and text recognition software

In the triplex reading room of the Altstadt University Library, a PC workstation is available in the scanner room on the 4th floor for you to process scanned texts and convert them into searchable full texts using text recognition software. All you need is a USB stick to transfer the scans from the book scanners. You can use the Abby Finereader PDF 15 software for OCR text recognition. You can also post-process your scans here with the help of Irfan View.
