FID4SA – Specialised Information Service for South Asia
The aim of the project is to further expand the services for South Asian Studies and Indology. These are to be brought together in a newly created portal of the FID4SA, so that the South Asian studies community has integrated access to all services and offerings of the FID.
In addition to continuing to build up the print collection, the focus of future development and profile building will be on expanding the supra-regional online availability of South Asian studies media in order to provide researchers with the fastest and most direct access possible to information relevant to their research. This is realised primarily through the provision of supra-regional subject licences for e-books, but also through the expansion of the offer of full-text searchable digitised older or current, copyright-protected specialist literature and image or object media in open access.
Another focus is on publishing in open access. With Heidelberg Asian Studies Publishing (HASP), the FID4SA offers researchers in Asian studies worldwide the opportunity to publish their research results electronically.
The value-added services to be expanded or newly developed focus primarily on the competences already available, such as "OCR procedures for South Asian scripts" and the "online presentation of research-relevant subject information".
The FID4SA is supported in an advisory capacity by a scientific advisory board in the design of its services. In addition, it maintains close contact with scholars for further coordination.
