L'Eclipse was a weekly periodical which was published from 1868 to 1919 as a follow-up for La Lune which was banned in 1868. Like its predecessor it was first published in folio and from 1876 onwards in quarto. During the first few years and under publisher François Polo, André Gill was the chief caricaturist. Apart from Gill other artists such as Alfred Le Petit, Hadol, Pépin and Draner worked for L’Eclipse.
