Porta Aurea is an art-historical research journal published by the department of history of art of the University of Gdańsk by their in-house university press (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego). A single volume was published each year since 1992. The first volumes were monographic (volumes 1-4 and 6), volume 5 of the journal was never published. After a ten-year break starting in 1999, publication was resumed in 2009.
The journal is aimed at readers who are interested in history of art and architectural history and the range of art-related topics cover the terminologically broadly-conceived Baltic region. This profile is non-exclusive, so that each volume focuses especially on texts about the art of Gdańsk, or more broadly the tri-city Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot, the Baltic coast, Northern Germany, the Baltic states and Scandinavia. In principle all texts are published in Polish with an English summary, but articles in English and German are also permitted.
