Specialised Information Service for Art
For more than 70 years Heidelberg University Library has maintained the focus of its collection on “Early Modern and Modern Art History until 1945 and General History of Art”, within the framework of the cooperative system of nationwide literature maintenance supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
This collection aims to provide a comprehensive collection of printed and electronic media on this subject. To be able to offer the art history community a diverse selection of information spanning a wide range of periods and media, Heidelberg University Library, together with several partners, founded the Virtual Specialized Library (Virtuelle Fachbibliothek) „arthistoricum.net“ in 2005, which has since 2012 been run in collaboration with SLUB Dresden.
Within the framework of the DFG program "Specialised Information Service" (Fachinformationsdienste für die Wissenschaft) Heidelberg University Library and SLUB Dresden are expanding their existing range of products, and providing these products via the joint platform arthistoricum.net – Specialised Information Service Art – Photopgraphy – Design. Heidelberg still maintains the field of “Early Modern and Modern Art History until 1945 and General History of Art” while SLUB Dresden focuses on “Art after 1945, Photography, Industrial and Graphic Design”.
